Phil Woolas ejected from parliament over election slurs

The former immigration minister Phil Woolas had lied during the general election about his Liberal Democrat opponent, and this will have implications for the next campaigns. This party says that lying should not play part in elections. Elwyne, one of the members of the opponent party, says that Woolas misled the vote of the people in Oldham East. He told them that Watkins was an Islamic extremists in the last days of the election. He also lied about Watkins's intention to live in the constituency. All this has been sustain by emails that the court found between Woolas's team. He has lost his seat in the Commons and is barred for three years. The Labour party also has suspended him because they do not support the fact that he had lie to win. Now the party is concern if the action of Woolas can affect the party in a negative way. It is also mentioned that the ruling on this case can change the way elections are fought.
Woolas has to pay the claim of Watkins of the mocked-up newspapers. Shamash, who frequently acts for the Labour party has said that this decision will absolutely chill political speech. Woolas will be suspend from the party, but they don’t will take action against him. The Labour leader Ed Miliband has said that this is a reminder to all politicians that it is important to fight but never with lies.

Reaction: I completely agree with the decision of the Labour Party by suspening this minister. You cannot lie about someone only because you want to win. They have to be limits in everything and I think that by punishing this minister the other ones who also do this sort of things will see that it’s not accepted and tolerated.
